MEET YOUR Shame Proof Guide
Dr. Mercedes Samudio, LCSW
Afronerd, Mental Wellness Advocate, Media Consultan
Hey there, I’m Dr. Mercedes Samudio (she/her), a licensed clinical social worker, author, and the founder of Shame-Proof Parenting.
I’ve spent nearly two decades supporting individuals, families, and fellow clinicians in healing the emotional wounds that shame leaves behind. My work is rooted in the belief that we all deserve spaces where we can show up fully, without apology, without performance, and without shame.
As your guide in these courses, I bring a mix of clinical expertise (Family systems, multicultural counseling, EMDR, Brainspotting, trauma-informed practices), lived experience, and cultural intentionality. I was raised community, and I’ve also done the work to heal from trauma, spiritual harm, and intergenerational wounds. So, this isn’t just professional; it’s deeply personal.
I designed these courses to be more than just information - they’re transformation spaces. Whether you’re a parent, a therapist, a caregiver, or someone doing your own healing work, you’ll find tools here that are:
Culturally expansive
Trauma-informed
Emotionally honest
Rooted in liberation, not perfection
This is a place for learning and unlearning.
A space where your humanity is welcome.
Let’s grow together: shame-proof focused, identity-rooted, and fully you.
Course FAQ
-
These courses are for parents, caregivers, therapists, and anyone doing the work of healing while raising or supporting others. If you’re navigating trauma, generational patterns, cultural identity, or just trying to show up more grounded - you’re in the right place.
-
Nope. While some courses are designed with parents in mind, others are for anyone doing inner work, supporting others, or building a shame-proof life. Each course clearly states the focus, so you can find what fits your journey.
-
Most courses are self-paced, with video lessons ranging from 5 to 20 minutes each. Some may include live sessions or workbooks you can move through on your own time.
-
No shame here! Once you enroll, you have lifetime access. You can return to the material whenever you need—healing doesn’t run on a deadline.
-
Great question. These courses are not therapy and don’t replace 1:1 counseling. They’re designed as educational and supportive tools to deepen your insight, offer guidance, and spark healing outside the therapy room.
-
Some premium or cohort-based courses do include live Q&A or community sessions. Each course page will tell you if that’s included.
-
Yes. Everything I create is rooted in trauma-informed, culturally expansive care. I design these courses with Black families, marginalized identities, and intersectional experiences at the center.
-
You’ll be able to submit questions or reflections through the course platform, and I offer periodic office hours or Q&As for enrolled students depending on the course.
-
While Dr. Mercedes is an approved NBCC CE provider, currently, courses are not CEU-approved unless noted. If you’re a clinician, some materials may still be helpful in your personal or professional development, and I offer separate supervision options for that.
